ABOUT US.... Organized in 2008, The Savannah Gay & Lesbian
Film Society (SGLFS) was first sponsored and formed under First
City Network (FCN) in collaboration with Reel Woman Productions. FCN is the oldest
gay and lesbian organization in the state of Georgia and Reel Woman Productions
is responsible for discovering and acquiring our event films. In March of 2010 the
Film Society incorporated and formed as a separate non-profit organization.
Telfair Museums and the Savannah Gay & Lesbian Film Society (SGLFS)
have partnered to present year round cinema at Telfair's Jepson Center, beginning
October 14-15, 2011. SGLFS has featured films at the Jepson previously
but this partnership joins Telfair Museums, who has for 125 years, offered compelling
expressions of visual culture connecting people of all ages and backgrounds, with
SGLFS and together serve the educational and cultural needs of
the Savannah community.
SGLFS presents cinematic works by
some of the best LGBT filmmakers
from around the world through member screenings, specially partnered and sponsored
screenings, and through our annual Savannah International LGBT Film Festival. Short
and Feature films have come from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Ireland,
Korea, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Sweden, the UK and of course, the USA.
Utilizing comedy, drama, documentary, musical and animation formats, we deliver
fun and thought-provoking films from around the globe that document and celebrate
LGBT lives. Many of our films have won global audience and or film-making awards.
